Sports Development Manager



Reports to:

  • Co-founders
  • Liaise with (internal): Exco members, General Manager Breakaway, High-Performance Athletes, Part-time Coaches, Parents, Team Managers, Breakaway Secretariat and athletes
  • Liaise with (external): Sport Singapore/Singapore Sports Institute staff, Triathlon Association of Singapore, Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC), Singapore Sports School, Singapore Triathlon Clubs and Teams, and other Regulatory Bodies


The Sports Development Manager will be an experienced and knowledgeable person so as to provide leadership and direction in high-performance management, coaching programmes and use of sports science, and plan for and implement the development of Breakaway in two main areas, viz. a.) plan, develop and deliver customised training programmes for athletes c) co-develop, with the Co-Founders, a long term high-performance plan, with an emphasis on youth and Club/Team pathway development so as to achieve and sustain Breakaway medals count at the Major Games and Championships.

The person must therefore possess a recognized ITU Level 1 Coaching Certificate (or experience equivalent) with a good track record of past coaching and high-performance achievements.


  • ITU Level 1 or Equivalent Coaching Certification*
  • A University Degree in a related field of study would be an advantage but not essential
  • 3 to 5 years relevant experience in the area of sports science, training and performance
  • Have proven track record of success at performance sports and is (preferably) still involved in coaching in one way or another
  • A past performance athlete and/or who understands the local sports system and with some understanding of the same at the regional and international levels
  • Has been involved in a front-line or supporting role at Major Games (Olympics/Commonwealth Games/Asian Games/SEA Games) and regional, continental Championships
  • Strong understanding of Technical Rules and Regulations of the ITU and TAS
  • Able to understand and plan core training concepts including periodization, training phases etc, coordinate, and review the sports science, coaching needs, and allocate resources to optimize performance
  • Able to develop and plan coaching programs for the development pathways for athletes      
  • Be familiar with athlete support programs and policies administered by Sport Singapore
  • Be familiar with the requirements on the Code of Athlete Management which includes establishment and implementation of fair and transparent athlete selection policy, implementation of athletes’ agreement, adoption and adherence to anti-doping rules and policies
  • Have excellent communication skills

  • $2,000 to $3,000 per month depending on experience and qualifications
