Dsquad, one year on.

Dsquad, one year on.

The D Squad was established just a little over a year ago, on 1 July 2019. I clearly remember us giving the last push and taking that massive leap of faith on a 2-hour bus ride to the SEA Games Mixed Team Relay Trials in Educity, Malaysia. There was so much uncertainty (on how our vision would be received, what would the take-up be like, etc) but we felt so strongly about giving back to a sport that we so love that we decided to go ahead with the launch anyway. And one year forward, we produced multiple podium winners and their endeavours in local racing have also been rewarded by personal bests and coming in tops in their respective age-groups.

One of the Club’s over-arching vision is to bring like-minded athletes across different abilities together, hence the D Squad is made up of athletes across different age-ranges, with different sporting backgrounds and goals. It was key to us that we provided an all-inclusive environment with the right mix of positive influences so that the athletes could grow to fulfill their fullest potential, in and outside of sport.

Coach Shuwie

The D Squad started with the minimum sign up of four, and have since then doubled across the next few months. Within a year, the athletes have attained their draft-legal endorsement by Triathlon Singapore, been given opportunities to attend regional training camps and also to race alongside the Sea Games Team in the National Championships.

The success behind all of this is a dedicated professional coaching team that understood the ins and outs of the system, matched with a committed bunch of athletes choosing to invest in their athletic journey via coaching. Without this two-way exchange, the coaches will never get a chance to dedicate their 100% to growing the team and its athletes professionally, and in return, the athletes can find it hard to truly understand and appreciate the value of coaching.

Hence, at our 1 year anniversary, we would like to thank all athletes, parents, partners, sponsors and backstage management crew for your help and belief in driving this movement forward. Your support enables us to continue our quest of growing this into something bigger and better for the future.

Sincerely,

Shuwie
(On behalf of the coaching team at Club Breakaway)
